I do not know if there is anyone out there who does not know who Charlie Daniels is. It is a shame that he passed this year. For those who did not know, Charlie Daniels was an N.R.A. Life Member as well as being a very popular Country Singer and Legend.
In an open letter to all, Charlie Daniels speaks to everyone about the Second Amendment. His words are very telling. A link to the article follows: Mexican Gun Control.
In his letter, Charlie Daniels tells all Americans about Gun Control. It hits home abruptly. It is scary to hear what is going on just South of our Border. Charlie Daniels states in his letter that which we have been saying all along: ” What have all the super-stringent gun laws done to protect life in Mexico? If you will be honest, you’ll have to admit the have done the opposite. The laws have armed the criminals who have no regard for any law and will obtain weapons illegally, while leaving law-abiding citizens without the means to protect themselves.”
What makes it even worse is that most pro-gun control people fail to realize what we have been saying for years. Charlie Daniels says it so eloquently, ” Can’t you see that when you take away the means of protection from law-abiding people, it is not going to reduce the gun population among the criminal element one-half of one percent?” This sounds so familiar, as if we have heard this said before.
Mr. Daniels goes into some statistical information in his letter regarding ultra-restrictive gun laws and the effect that they have had on crime. ” Between 2000 and 2012, 215,000 people were murdered. In 2012, Mexico had murder rate of 21.5 per 100,000. In 2018 there were 33,341 murders. Violent crimes increased from 5.2 million in 2017 to 6 million in 2018. There is simply too much money generated by the drug trade that the means of buying off or intimidation, the drug cartels do practically anything they want without fear of official intervention from their government.” It is not that hard to imagine that this could happen in America if we did not have the Second Amendment. This is exactly what we have been trying to get our society to understand. That could be America if we allow the repeal of the Second Amendment. This would not characterize what we would call a free society, would you?
Now everyone must also understand it is not just the criminals that we have to worry about. Those who are against guns, must not remember the history of our country. Let us take a stroll back to the writing of our constitution. The reason we separated from England at that time is because our four fathers we sick of being ruled by a King who taxed the citizens but did not give them fair representation. At that particular time period there was not much of an military to speak of in the new land. This mean that citizens could be called upon to fight against the British. This is why the Second Amendment was included in the Constitution. Although we do not have a king running our country, but this Second Amendment still has it’s usefulness today. Look at the times we are living in with Covid-19 and Social Unrest throughout the country. Should our citizens have the right to defend themselves against a tyrannical government or other citizens in their society trying to steal from them or exploit the situation? We believe so. We hear of people wanting to de-fund the Police. Who are you going to call when you have a violent criminal out on parole when he decides to break into your house and rape your family? If you de-fund the Police, don’t call them. I think Mr. Daniels says it best. ” It has been proven over and over that the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun, is a good guy with a gun. This is irrefutable.” Let that sink it.
