The NRA Basic Shotgun Shooting Course teaches students the basic knowledge, skills and attitude required for the safe use of a shotgun while shooting at a moving target. This course is at least ten hours long and is conducted both in a classroom and at a range under the guidance and supervision of an NRA Certified instructor. This course is intended for all adults notwithstanding previous experience or affiliation.
For participating in the course, students receive the NRA Basics of Shotgun Shooting Handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification Booklet, take a Basics of Shotgun Shooting Student Examination, and receive a successful course completion certificate.
Skills Learned
Some of the topics covered in this course include: NRA’s firearm safety rules, proper use and operation of shotguns, shotgun parts and the operation of those parts, shotgun shell parts and malfunctions, fundamentals of shooting, range rules, shooting at different types of targets, cleaning and students will be afforded continued practice for skill development.
