Hunter Clinics

The NRA Hunter Clinics are taught by Certified and Experienced Hunters. The course is designed to teach advanced hunting skills to all hunters regardless of experience or age. The NRA Instructors are given access to up-to-date, educationally sound training manuals that are reinforced by highly praised NRA Hunter Skills Series books. Regardless of how, where or what you hunt, the NRA has an instructor lead program that will interest you. The current topics offered are Whitetail Deer Hunting, Western Big-Game Hunting, and Wild Turkey Hunting.

NRA Carry Guard Insurance/Training

NRA Carry Guard Insurance/Training is a program developed for the NRA and Military/Law Enforcement Experts for the person who carries a firearm concealed. The NRA is developing a network of Instructors across the country to train as instructors to offer this class to the public. Not only does this program offer different levels of insurance, it also offers different levels of training for the student to fit their budget and needs for concealed carry.

Skills Learned

The students will learn how to improve their personal safety strategies using concealed carry. Students are also taught techniques and tactics that can be used to prevent and help avoid becoming easy victims/targets of crime while concealed carry.

NRA Basic Defensive Pistol

The NRA Basic Defensive Pistol Course teaches students the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude required to carry and use a concealed pistol correctly and ethically, responsibly and with confidence.

The NRA Defensive Pistol course will concentrate on the techniques that help to develop a defensive mindset. The goal of the course is to develop the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to carry and use a concealed pistol ethically, responsibly and with confidence. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Personal Protection Outside the Home handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure and the NRA Defensive Pistol certificate.

This course is only conducted by NRA certified Advanced Pistol Instructors.

Skills Learned

After participating in this course, each student will be able to explain and demonstrate with confidence the following: how to apply the NRA Rules for Safe Gun Handling while carrying a concealed firearm; basic principles of concealment; the difference and principles behind cover and concealment; drawing from the holster; many levels of successful mental awareness; developing the proper attitude when using a pistol for personal protection/self-defense; clearing common stoppages; use of pocket pistols; Students will be given continued opportunities for skill development; and more.

NRA Basic Personal Protection Outside of the Home

The NRA Basic Personal Protection Outside the Home Course teaches students the basic knowledge, skills and attitude required avoiding dangerous confrontations and for the safe, efficient and responsible use of a concealed handgun for protection/defense of self and loved ones outside the home, and provides information on the law-abiding individual’s right to self-defense.

This course is for law-abiding adult citizens, who are eligible to possess a firearm as defined by applicable federal, state or local law in the state for which the course is taught, and who have a good reputation and possess defensive pistol skills as presented in the NRA Basics of Personal Protection in the Home Course and experienced shooters (shooters able to demonstrate proficiency in the basic skills of safe gun handling, grouping, zeroing the firearm, and cleaning/care of the firearm). Students must also understand and articulate the basic legal concepts as they relate to the use of firearms for self-defense in the state for which the course is taught, and must know and observe not only general gun safety rules but also those safety principles/practices that are specific to self-defense situations. Prospective students must demonstrate that they have the appropriate knowledge, skills, and attitudes by meeting one of the following: an NRA Basic Personal Protection in The Home Course Certificate or the student may elect to pass the Pre-Course Assessment.

This course has two sections/levels. Level one is at least nine hours long and is conducted both in a classroom and at a range under the guidance and supervision of an NRA Certified instructor and offers the required knowledge and skills that the student needs to master to carry, store and use a firearm safely and effectively for personal protection outside the home. Students spend several hours on the range and will be required to fire approximately 100 rounds of ammunition during this level/section. After completion of Level One, students may choose to attend level/section two of this course, which is an additional five hours on the range will be required to fire approximately 115 rounds of ammunition. It should be noted that the time and ammunition requirements are a minimum and maybe exceeded. Students will be given continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Personal Protection Outside the Home handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, and the appropriate (level one/level two) course completion certificate(s).

The last lesson of this course: Firearms and the Law, and Legal Aspects of Self-Defense; is instructed by an attorney licensed to practice law within the state in which this course is given and who is familiar with this specific area of the law; or a Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) who is certified to instruct at an intermediate or higher Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certificate granted within the state; or an Instructor who is certified to instruct in this area of the law by the state in which this course is presented. NRA certified instructors may conduct this lesson only if they meet the requirements stated above, and then only in their capacity as an attorney or other state-certified individual, not in their capacity as an NRA certified instructor.

NRA Home Firearm Safety

This is a Non-Shooting Course.

This is a minimum four-hour course that is conducted in the classroom only. The course teaches students the basic knowledge and skills that enable them to explain the attitude necessary for safe handling and storage of firearms/ammunition in the home. For participating in the course, students receive the NRA Home Firearms Safety Handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Basic Firearm Training Program brochure, and a successful course completion certificate.

Skills Learned

Students will learn the NRA’s three rules for safe gun handling; common causes of firearms accidents; parts of a firearm; ammunition parts and function; proper cleaning procedures; how to safely store firearms in the home; learn the value of participating in the shooting sports.
